The World Bank Internship offers highly motivated and successful individuals an opportunity to improve their skills while working in a diverse environment. Interns generally find the experience to be rewarding and interesting. The Internship Program is open to students who are nationals of the Bank’s member countries and attracts a large number of highly qualified candidates.  The purpose of the Internship is to provide graduate students with a chance to gain exposure to the work of the World Bank Group in the hopes that some will be interested in returning to the Bank for a career after completing their studies. The advantage for the Bank in offering these opportunities to students is that they get temporary assistance from students who are typically very knowledgeable in particular fields. The job descriptions for interns vary. Some interns research particular projects while others actually help design projects and occasionally they participate in Bank missions. The most common fields of study are: economics, finance, human development (public health, education, nutrition, population), social sciences (anthropology, sociology), agriculture, environment, and private sector development. The number of interns hired for a given year are approximately 150-200, depending on the needs of Bank managers and their budget circumstances.

Eligibility

Candidates must possess an undergraduate degree and already be enrolled in a full-time graduate study program (pursuing a Master’s degree or PhD with plans to return to school in a full-time capacity. Generally, successful candidates have completed their first year of graduate studies or are already into their PhD programs. This Program typically seeks candidates in the following fields: economics, finance, human development (public health, education, nutrition, population), social science (anthropology, sociology), agriculture, environment, private sector development, as well as other related fields. Fluency in English is required. Prior relevant work experience, computing skills, as well as knowledge of languages such as French, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Portuguese, and Chinese are advantageous.

Salary

The Bank pays an hourly salary to all Interns and, where applicable, provides an allowance towards travel expenses. Interns are responsible for their own living accommodations. Most positions are located in Washington, DC (some positions are offered in country offices) and are a minimum of four weeks in duration.

Traineeships At The Office For Harmonization In The Internal Market

The Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (OHIM) – Trade marks and Designs organizes traineeships twice a year, lasting five months each, for young university graduates of Member States of the European Union and for a number of nationals from candidate countries and third countries. These traineeships consist of work experience in one of the services of the Office. They commence on 1 February (Spring training period) and 1 September (Autumn training period) of each year. Each application should make reference to the training period immediately following the application. It is difficult to give an exact description of the type of work given to trainees, but the traineeships shall aim principally to:

• provide training in industrial property and more specifically in trade mark law;
• extend and apply knowledge acquired in the course of studies or working life;
• enable trainees to acquire personal experience through the contacts they make in their everyday work.

The principal areas of the OHIM’s work are as follows:

• industrial property: trade marks; litigation; appeals; designs; international technical cooperation.
• other areas, in particular: finance; information technology.

Eligibility

To be eligible, applicants must:

• be nationals of the Member States of the European Communities and candidate countries. However, a limited number of nationals of  third countries may be accepted.
• have a recognised university degree, proving completion of a full cycle of study, or in the case of trainees who are at the end of their studies, an official attestation from the university stating the marks obtained;
• some initial experience;
• have a thorough knowledge of one official language of the European Communities and a satisfactory knowledge of another language of the European Communities; one of these languages must be a language of the OHIM (Spanish, German, English, French, Italian). For applicants from candidate countries and third countries, a good knowledge of only one of the OHIM’s languages is required.

Remuneration

Trainees will be awarded a monthly grant. The amount of the grant is decided by the Traineeships Office on a yearly basis and is dependent on budgetary constraints. The trainees will receive health and accident insurance. Recruited trainees may receive a travel allowance, subject to budget availability.

It is very important to enclose scanned copies of university certificates with your application (for applicants who have not yet received their official degree certificate, a statement from their university confirming their degree result is sufficient). III Kyiv International Model UN Conference

The Kyiv International Model United Nations Conference (KIMUN) 2011 will be held from the 26th – 28th of October 2011, in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. This will be the third session of the KIMUN conference. Previously, KIMUN has successfully brought together students from colleges and universities around the world, providing a stimulating and challenging experience in relation to world affairs, diplomacy and international negotiation. This year, the conference will be in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. Throughout the conference, delegates will be provided the opportunity to debate and gain insight into the workings of the United Nations through formulating resolutions, aiming for a consensus and raising international awareness.
What is Model United Nations?
Model United Nations (MUN) is an authentic simulation of specific UN organs, committees or conferences such as the General Assembly or Commission on Sustainable Development. In MUN, students step into the shoes of ambassadors of UN Member states to debate current issues on the organization’s vast agenda.
Who is a Model UN delegate?
A Model UN delegate is a student who assumes the role of an ambassador to the United Nations in a Model UN simulation. Prior to a conference or event, a Model UN delegate does not need extensive experience in international relations. Anyone can participate in Model UN, so long as they have the ambition to learn something new and to work with people to try and make a difference in the world. Model UN students tend to go on to become great leaders in politics, law, business, education and medicine, such as the people mentioned above.
Committees
The KIMUN conference will host 6 Сommittees: Security Council, Human Rights Council, ICJ, ECOSOC, UNICEF, UN Committee on drugs and crimes.

The conference is open to young people between 16 and 30 who have the ambition to learn something new and to work with people to try and make a difference in the world.

Das Sektorvorhaben Internationale Waldpolitik (SV IWP) berät das
Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ)
zu Fragen der internationalen waldrelevanten Politikprozesse, welche es im
Auftrag des Ministeriums mitgestaltet. Darüber hinaus entwickelt das SV IWP
zusammen mit den Projekten in den Partnerländern, in internationalen
Netzwerken und sektorübergreifend mit anderen Abteilungen Ideen und Konzepte
zur Umsetzung internationaler Abkommen. Die Erkenntnisse und Erfahrungen aus
den Projekten werden im Sektorvorhaben aufgearbeitet und fließen in Beratung
und Diskussionen ein. Desweiteren arbeitet das Vorhaben auch für andere
Auftraggeber wie das Bundesministerium für Umwelt, Naturschutz und

*Aufgaben*

Schwerpunkt des Praktikums ist die Unterstützung in den Arbeitsfeldern
Vermiedene Entwaldung (REDD+) und Forest Governance. Dabei arbeiten Sie im
Tagesgeschäft mit und lernen die Arbeitsweise des Sektorvorhabens sowie der
Deutschen Gesellschaft für internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) kennen. Sie

EU Agency for Fundamental Rights Traineeships, Austria

Twice a year, the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) offers paid traineeships for periods of three to five months to young graduates. It aims at providing trainees with work experience in the administration of co-operation in the field of fundamental rights at the European level in order to gain an insight into FRA’s objectives and activities, and to put their learning into practice.
The aims of the traineeships are:

• to provide an understanding of the objectives and activities of FRA
• to enable trainees to acquire practical experience and knowledge of the day-to-day work of FRA Units and services
• to enable trainees to put into practice knowledge acquired during their studies, or professional careers

FRA through its traineeships scheme benefits from the input of young enthusiastic graduates, who can give a fresh point of view and up-to-date academic knowledge, which will enhance the everyday work of FRA.
Every year the Director shall decide the number of traineeships to be offered in each Department, depending on the needs of the Agency, the funds available and the capacity of each Department to accommodate trainees.

Nationality
Trainees are selected from nationals of the Member States of the European Union and EU candidate and potential candidate countries.
University Diploma
Candidates must have completed the first cycle of a higher education course (i.e. university education) and obtained a full degree or its equivalent by the closing date for applications.
Languages
In order for the trainee to fully profit from the traineeship and to be able to follow meetings and perform adequately:

• Candidates from Member States must have very good knowledge of at least two Community languages, including English.
• Candidates from pre-accession EU countries must have very good knowledge of English.

Costs

Trainees are awarded a monthly grant of EUR 1000. Recruited trainees will get travel expenses reimbursed at the beginning and the end of the traineeship. Disabled trainees may receive a supplement to their grant up to their grant equal to a maximum of 50% of the amount of the grant.

A young blogger from each of UNESCO’s five constituent regions (Africa, Arab States, Asia and the Pacific, Europe and North America & Latin America and the Caribbean) will be selected.

The application deadline is Thursday, September 15, 2011.

Youth journalists and bloggers have three roles: Firstly, they will ensure internal coverage of the Forum through blogs, articles, video clips, radio coverage and other relevant mediums. Secondly, they will be responsible for reporting news of the Forum to their regional and local communities, networks and organizations. Thirdly, they will accompany the action of youth delegates in implementing the recommendations of the Forum in the regions.

Below are the basic selection criteria and the processes for application and selection.

Usedom/Uznam und Görlitz/Zgorzelec: Deutsch-polnische Geschichte, Gegenwart und Perspektiven

Die Insel im Norden und die Stadt im Süden der deutsch-polnischen Grenze sind seit 1945 geteilt: Usedom/Uznam und Görlitz/Zgorzelec. Erst die Grenzöffnung 2007 machte da wie dort ein neues nachbarschaftliches deutsch-polnisches Miteinander möglich. Die Geschichte und die Perspektiven des Lebens im Grenzgebiet sind auf Usedom wie in Görlitz aktuelle Themen, mit denen sich zwei Veranstaltungen beschäftigen:
"Zwischen Usedom und Uznam - Geschichte, Gegenwart und Perspektiven einer Grenze" lautet das Thema einer Tagung in der Jugendbegegnungs- und Bildungsstätte Golm in Kamminke auf Usedom (14.-16. Oktober 2011), die von der Kulturreferentin für Pommern in Kooperation mit dem Volksbund deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge e.V. angeboten wird. Trotz der touristischen Attraktivität der geteilten Insel und der Grenzöffnung 2007 sind noch immer Relikte der jahrzehntelangen Trennung der einstigen Stadt Swinemünde von ihrem westlichen Hinterland in der Region präsent. Die Mythen über die Vergangenheit prägen nach wie vor die kollektive Erinnerung. Gleichzeitig beobachtet man in einer Vielzahl von Bürgerinitiativen, wie das deutsch-polnische Miteinander in der Region wächst. Ziel der geplanten Tagung ist die Auseinandersetzung mit Fragen der Grenzpolitik auf der Insel Usedom seit 1945 bis heute. Auf dem Programm stehen Themen wie die Folgen des Potsdamer Abkommens und die wichtigsten Aspekte der unmittelbaren Nachkriegsgeschichte, Fragen der Grenzpolitik zwischen der DDR und der Volksrepublik Polen und die Geschichte der Grenzregion von 1989 bis zur Implementierung des Schengener Abkommens in Polen 2007. Für die jeweiligen Epochen der Grenze kommen Expertinnen und Experten aus Deutschland und Polen zu Wort und stellen ihre Thesen zur Diskussion. "Lebenswege ins Ungewisse" heißt eine Ausstellung über Migration in Görlitz-Zgorzelec von 1933 bis heute. Die Ausstellung -- zugleich ein Beitrag des Schlesischen Museums zu Görlitz und des Muzeum ?uz.yckie in Zgorzelec zur 3. Sächsischen Landesausstellung 2011 "Via regia" -- ist noch bis zum 25. März 2012 im Schlesischen Museum zu Görlitz zu sehen. Sie beschäftigt sich mit dem Kommen und Gehen der Menschen: meist erzwungen, manchmal freiwillig, bestimmte es das Leben in der deutsch-polnischen Doppelstadt an der Neiße in der jüngsten Vergangenheit. Seit acht Jahrzehnten durchlaufen immer wieder Wellen der Migration die Stadt, veranlasst durch Diktatur und Krieg, Flucht und Vertreibung, gesellschaftliche und wirtschaftliche Umwälzungen. Verfolgung, Vertreibung und Internierung begannen in der Zeit des Nationalsozialismus. In der Notzeit nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg erlebte Görlitz einen dramatischen Wechsel seiner Bevölkerung. Die Stadt wurde durch die neue Grenze zerschnitten. Die Deutschen mussten ihre Häuser im Ostteil verlassen, und es entstand Zgorzelec mit einer neu angesiedelten polnischen, griechischen und makedonischen Bevölkerung. In den westlichen Stadtteilen suchten Tausende deutscher Vertriebener Zuflucht. Die sozialistische Umgestaltung der Gesellschaft trieb viele Menschen aus dem Land, anderen boten neue Industrien eine Lebensperspektive. Seit der Wende 1989/90 ist die Entwicklung von Görlitz und Zgorzelec erneut durch starke Bevölkerungsbewegungen geprägt. In der Ausstellung kommen Deutsche und Polen zu Wort: Sie waren gezwungen, ihre Heimat zu verlassen, sie kamen, um ihr Glück zu suchen, oder sie gingen, weil sich ihnen hier keine Chance für ein freies und gutes Leben bot. Aus Interviews, historischen Aufnahmen und Erinnerungsstücken entsteht ein lebendiges Panorama deutsch-polnischer Zeitgeschichte an der Neiße.
