Atlantic-community Internship - Germany

Atlantic-community.org is seeking interns to support its editorial and outreach team. We have paid internship positions available beginning on January 9, February 1, and April 2, 2012. (One full-time position per respective start date).
If you are interested in an internship in 2011, then we could only offer you an unpaid part-time position (15-20 hours per week), but with similar tasks and learning experience. All internships last three months. Applicants must be eligible to work in Germany.
About the organisation:
As the first online think tank on foreign relations, atlantic-community.org connects experts and citizens in informed policy debate. Founded in 2007, atlantic-community.org is an award-winning joint project of two independent, non-partisan, non-profit organizations: Atlantische Initiative e.V. in Berlin, and Atlantic Initiative U.S., a 501(c)(3) status organization based in Washington, D.C. We facilitate networking and solution-oriented debate on the common challenges facing North America and Europe. We seek to empower the younger generation, promote transatlantic relations and bring together the collective intelligence of our more than 5,500 members.
What we offer:

  • 300 Euro per month for a full-time internship for a minimum of three months. Unpaid part-time internships are available as well.
What you will do:
  • Monitoring newspapers and think tank publications for nascent trends in international relations and condensing the main arguments into brief summaries
  • Copy editing and proofreading articles submitted to atlantic-community.org 
  • Copywriting of communication materials, emails, news releases, and newsletters
  • Support our policy workshops and op-ed competitions.
  • Conduct interviews with leading experts and politicians in Berlin.
  • Depending on profile other tasks may be assigned
Requirements:
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, including copywriting and/or journalistic experience. Knowledge of German, Russian or French is a plus, but not required.
  • Commitment to delivering quality results under time pressure, in a team and at own initiative. You should be a quick learner, dependable, and very well organized.
  • Attention to detail, without losing sight of the big picture
  • Intensive knowledge of international affairs beyond the issues that dominate the headlines and a keen interest in transatlantic relations. Applicants with a background in international relations, political science, economics or a related field are preferred.
  • Enthusiasm for social media, blogs, including demonstrated participation on atlantic-community.org
  • Previous work experience with online media would be an advantage; familiarity with content management systems, HTML, and video editing software is a plus.

Please also include a writing sample in English, which could either be an essay or term paper on international politics, or a 500-700 word op-ed on a topic of your choice, which may be considered for publication on atlantic-community.org.
