Brief info on training topic importance:
Young people are the leaders of tomorrow, but their active engagement
can start today. The 2013 Youth in Action for Conflict Transformation and
Peacebuilding programme aims to activate young entrepreneurship for positive
social change through an international training and networking experience. With
the globalization of our contemporary world, young people in Europe and abroad
are faced with complex social and political environments. Too often, these
complex environments become marred by conflict and violence, destroying the
foundations of security, prosperity, and partnership. Navigating these complex
environments in ways that build social cohesion and solidarity while meeting
the needs of an ever more diverse population is the challenge of our time. This
challenge requires youth people to acquire competencies in intercultural
communication, conflict analysis and transformation, collaborative
decision-making, and peacebuilding. It also requires young people to acquire
competency and confidence in social entrepreneurship, including needs
identification, conflict-sensitive project planning and stakeholder management,
human resources development, project evaluation, and communications.

Main aim of the training:
In alignment with the objectives of the EU’s Youth in Action programme,
the main aim of the training is to provide a valuable experience of non-formal
training for youth that fosters critical thinking, active citizenship,
solidarity and tolerance among young people, as well as promoting the
acquisition of skills leading to personal, social and professional development.

Working Methods
The project a variety of learning methodologies, combining conceptual
learning, group dialogue, experiential activities, collaborative problem
solving, group presentations, and introspection. The programme’s conceptual and
practical training is supported by exploration of case studies, experience
sharing, field trips, and hands-on experience. The methodologies provide
variety and flexibility to optimise the non-formal learning process for
participants of all age groups, religious and cultural traditions, and
professional experience. This variety also fosters a sense of ownership among
the participants over the program’s process and outcome.

Preparation of the workshop:
Participants will receive a pre-assignment that involves preparing for
the cultural evening, researching about issues that affect their societies,
peace initiatives, and engaging in discussions about intercultural
understanding in Europe. Additionally they will share their expectations in
advance, which together with their profiles, will be used to create the
substantive content of the workshop. This pre-assignment will serve as a
baseline to understand the type of participants, their knowledge and
experiences in relation to intercultural education.

During the workshop:
All methodologies are participatory which ensure active learning and
ownership of the learning process. Participants will work collaboratively and
will plan concrete, simple and practical actions plans to implement in their
countries.
