Description

The National University of Public Service (NUPS) in co-operation with the Tom Lantos Institute is organizing its first international Summer School on Minority Rights with a special focus on the implementation of norms in Central and Southeast Europe. It will take place from 4 to 10 August 2013 in Budapest, Hungary.
The Summer School focuses on the regional challenges of minority protection and ethno-cultural diversity management. Participants develop an overview of the existing international minority protection regime and become more familiar with the existing minority protection policy regimes in Central and Southeastern Europe. The Summer School provides inter-active academic lectures, networking opportunities for stakeholders operating in the field of minority protection and an opportunity to share experiences and discuss your own research projects. Hard work is complemented with interesting and informative cultural events.
Students who deliver a presentation at the Summer School get 3 ECTS.

Eligibility

  • Civil servants, decision-makers, teachers in higher education and public officials who deal primarily with ethnocultural minority related issues;
  • MA and PhD students who wish to acquire competitive personal competence beneficial for their future careers in academia or in practice-oriented professions;
  • Members of civil society organizations, practitioners; and
  • Everyone who is interested in recent developments, current theories and advanced training in the field of minority protection.
A good command of English is required as the language of the Summer School will be English.

Costs

The participation fee is 100 €. This fee covers tuition, accommodation, meals and cultural events.
The NUPS offers 15 full scholarships which cover tuition, accommodation, meals and cultural events for selected participants. Scholarships are primarily offered to applicants coming from CEE and SEE (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Hungary, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia).
Applicants for scholarship have to have:
  • current interest or work in the field;
  • motivation to improve their understanding and skills; and
  • plans for future activities or career where they can use the knowledge and skills acquired.

  • Letter of Motivation (max. 500 words): Describe your fields of academic and professional interest and career goals. Indicate your motivation for participating in the course, and how it will contribute to your professional development.
