Two Research Assistants / PhD Students - Switzerland

The Department of Political Science at the University of Lucerne (CH) is looking for
Two Research Assistants / PhD Students
(50 % positions, starting December, 1st 2012 or upon agreement)
to participate in two research projects on power shifts in global economic regulation
financed by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF) and the Swiss
Network for International Studies (SNIS).

One position (3 years, SNF) deals with the eventual decline of EU and US influence
on international trade regulation vis-à-vis emerging powers. The second
position (2 years, SNIS) analyses whether and how Brazil, China, India and Mexico
are conveying their growing economic weight into regulatory influence.
The sectors under study are (depending on the project) competition policy, intellectual
property rights, technical standards and services-related labour mobility
(GATS mode 4).

We expect
 an MA degree in Political Science/International Relations or adjacent discipline
 a background in international trade regulation and/or foreign economic policies
of one/several of the countries mentioned
 a solid knowledge of political science/IR theories and methods
 knowledge of one or more of the sectors in question is an asset

International Organizations
 competitive salary of between ca. 42’000 and 50’000 CHF per annum
