Function
The Netherlands Institute of Human Rights (SIM) at Utrecht University is appointing a Postdoctoral Research Fellow from the field of social sciences, law or related areas full time, for three years, for the project on the Impact of Transitional Justice on Democratic Institution-building in the Faculty of Law, under the supervision of Principal Investigator (PI) Associate Professor Dr. Anja Mihr. It is funded by the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO).

The research period will include field trips to different countries around the world. The postdoctoral Research Fellow should start working at the earliest possible date.This appointment is part of a joint project with Professor Chandra Lekha Sriram, School of Law, University of London, who is funded by the British Economic and Social Research Council. The collaborative research project operates under the umbrella of the Open Research Area (ORA) scheme between NWO, ESRC, DFG and ANR.The postdoc-holder will conduct individual and collaborative research under the supervision of the PI, according to grant specifications.

Your tasks:
Conduct literature review under guidance of PI.
Willingness to travel and conduct field research in countries in Africa, Europe, Asia and Latin America.
Write up research work for publication individually and in collaboration with PI.
Participate in workshops and conferences according to grant specifications.
Experience of disseminating information in an accurate and timely manner, and building relationships to facilitate the exchange of information.
Initiative in identifying new sources of information and in building networks.
Experience of resolving new problems where there is a mass of information or diverse, partial and conflicting data with a range of potential suitable options.
Experience of identifying or designing data gathering and analytical methods appropriate for each investigation, and producing reports that identify key issues and findings.

Profile
The applicant should have a strong background in human rights and comparative institutional analysis research. You should have the ability to summarise and interpret complex, conceptual and specialist matters to suit different audiences with varying levels of understanding and ability. Full proficiency in English as the main working language is required. Spanish, French, German or any other language such as Hungarian, Korean, Japanese will be an asset. A high degree of professional judgment and integrity as well as the ability to travel internationally is appreciated.

Offer
You will be based at the Netherlands Institute of Human Rights (SIM) at Utrecht University in The Netherlands for the period of three years.
We offer a temporary employment of 1.0 fte in a stimulating research climate and an enjoyable working environment in the inner-city of Utrecht, the Netherlands.
The salary for a full time appointment is € 3,195.- gross per month. Employment offers good secondary benefits.
